The first time I was applying for jobs was very frustrating for me. As I was ignored a lot of times. But I stayed on the line and continued applying. Remember that you can't apply with a high price as a newbie. If you got some experience under your belt by working as a low profile contractor then you might find some good one in the future.

Another thing is never underestimate your abilities and don't loose hope.

Ty Sin, when I was in church camp as a kid, my teacher once professed her extreme hatred of Harry Potter. She said she wouldn't even allow her foster daughter to read it anymore. At the time I was so deeply offended, Harry Potter being one of my favorite series, and simply wrote the teacher off as a moron. Now I feel extremely sorry for her and her daughter. What kind of monster would want to take away the joy of reading from a child? Who could put that border between a child and a fantasy world, a world of creativity? If a child wants to read, why would you stop that? Noam Chomsky was reading books on anarchy when he was ten-years-old. Where might he be without that influence?

Yes, some Christians do believe Harry Potter is evil, but what is truly evil and corrupt are those who wish to hinder free-thought in the minds of children.

A wonderful story of a heartfelt recollection of love... familiar to those of us who have lost a loved one(s). This story tiggers emotions making you realize love never dies; it remains forever etched in the memories of our hearts and minds. The love rolls off he pages and into your hearts

Great post. I agree with you that in the end, a stylistic choice may cost you progress in your career. All of the editing, proofreading and revisions are meant to make reading our thoughts easier, erroneous or creative punctuation or formatting only stands in the way. Your voice should be what your readers remember, not a lingering question of if you meant to do it that way or not.

The main turn-offs for me are:

I can't find an email (within a couple of links)/the email is non-functional. ('Made-invisible-to-nuisance-callers' does not count for this purpose).

There is nothing on the website to say where in the world you are based.

Having pages (especially the first-seen page) 'Last updated [five years ago].'
